The Agatha Awards on Saturday night were lovely: great company, touching and funny speeches and, of course, the Agatha Award winners:
“The Care and Feeding of House Plants” by Art Taylor (Best Short Story)
A Question of Honor by Charles Todd (Best Historical Novel)
Escape from Mr. Lemoncello’s Library by Chris Grabenstein (Best Children's/YA Novel)
The Hour of Peril: The Secret Plot to Murder Lincoln Before the Civil War by Daniel Stashower (Best Nonfiction)
Death Al Dente by Leslie Budewitz (Best First Novel)
The Wrong Girl by Hank Phillippi Ryan (Best Contemporary Novel)
Congratulations to all of the winners! And Congratulations to THREE authors from my publisher, Henery Press, who were nominated for Agatha Awards: Kendel Lynn (Best First Novel), LynDee Walker (Best First Novel) and Gigi Pandian (Best Short Story). Quite an honor, ladies!
The New Authors Breakfast Sunday morning was also wonderful (albeit early, especially after drinking too much Champagne with my Henery Press sisters the night before). I introduced KILLER IMAGE and DEADLY ASSETS to a few hundred folks, and I enjoyed hearing about all of the other new authors' works and meeting new fans. My TBR pile is now a TBR tower.
I am constantly surprised and touched by the warmth and generosity of many mystery authors, and the loyalty, intellectual curiosity and zeal of mystery fans. What a wonderful community of writers, readers and other industry professionals, all coming together annually in Bethesda for Malice. I can't wait until next year!
